• "So Near The Touch," the story making up the first annual. Although Sulu's assault to rescue Starfleet hostages is successful, Corazon sacrifices herself to save one of her medical team. She survives the story, but has been irreversibly contaminated by the toxins destroying the people of Datugan. She chooses to spend the rest of her life on the planet helping with Starfleet's efforts to save the Datugan people from extinction, but can never reunite with Sulu.
• Volume 2, issue 19. Pretty much the whole thing from cover to cover, as it thoroughly deconstructs the Red Shirt. But special props go to Kirk's eulogy as he expresses his regrets that one of his crew sacrificed his life for him, and yet he knew nothing about the man beyond what his Starfleet record had to say.
  Kirk: ...the death of one of us diminishes us all.
