There are spoilers below. Read at your own caution, or go back and watch the movies first.

In General

  • The film series in overall expresses a pessimistic tone about the U.S. economy, government and citizens' quality of life. Bill laments that unless rash action is taken against the wealthy and decision-makers, everyone is doomed to a sad and bleak future with limited resources even when they get old and are on the brink of death, with their children to share the same fate.

Capital Punishment

  • We learn that Bill's mother died a while ago because she was depressed over Bill's absence, and took a medication to cope with her depression that led to the fatal car crash she was involved in. When Bill eventually learns about this he's visibly affected by it.

President Down

  • Bill spews a fatalist sentiment about his newborn son Billy and on camera while recording a video spells out his own son's sad fate as tragically but also realistically as he can to the letter: Billy was not born to the richest 1% of America, and so he'll be trapped in the status of a rapidly diminishing middle class then when he reaches adulthood he will work into old age scratching and clawing to make ends meet and leave something for his children before his body deteriorates from old age, followed by his mind deteriorating and then finally death. As Bill's speech is being played, he's visibly tearing up and fighting back tears.
