Tear Jerker / 999

Go To

A docudrama featuring reconstructions of real-life rescues that might as well be Nightmare Fuel incarnate is always going to have its sad moments.

  • The first ever reconstruction focused on a gas explosion in a Putney block of flats in which several tenants, including the subject's sister, were killed.
    • What is more, the subject could smell the gas and knew something was wrong just moments before the explosion.
  • The anti-drink-driving special from 1994 only featured reconstructions in which one of the subjects was killed as a result of people driving under influence.
  • In-between reconstructions, the series would feature the emergency services and similar organisations showing how they work and what they do, even if it meant showing archive footage of disasters such as Lockerbie.
  • The distress the victims went through during their ordeals and that of their families/friends/rescuers while trying to help them and in the immediate aftermath.
  • Ironically, the tear-jerking moments actually prevented situations from getting any worse.
    • One such example was a young boy falling into a gorilla pit as his crying scared off the gorillas.
  • There was a special episode in 1998 to mark the first Anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.
