Tear Jerker / Jekyll and Heidi

Go To

  • The beginning of the book, where Heidi mentions spending days/weeks crying after her parents died, is not only heartbreaking, but realistic. For those who have lost family or friends, you can definitely understand how this poor little girl feels.
  • The scene where Mariana accidentally kills her hamster, who she had described as her "best friend in the world" is shocking, and her horrified reaction right after doesn't help. Worse, she again takes her anger out on poor Heidi. But you can still feel Mariana's grief.
  • The scene near the end when Mariana is revealed to be the "beast". She breaks down crying as her father tries to comfort her. You can tell she HATES being cursed, forced to go through this almost every night. She may have a cold, gruff exterior, but just like Heidi, deep down she's still just another little girl going through a living nightmare.
