  • The Mod rubs some salt in the wound after Aerith's death by having Jenova-LIFE raise Aerith's body to force her to fight at its side. While it opens up the possibility to save Aerith, the Mod sadistically forces you to choose between saving her but at the cost of a harder battle, or getting an easier boss fight and the Ribbon, one of the best accessories of the game. Or even worst, if you went through the fight in blind, you may even end up accidentally killing Aerith by choosing a move targeting all the opponents (like, say, Tifa's Limit Break) before you can even understand what's going on. And if you want to keep the original story on track, or if the fight becomes too hard for the characters to survive, you therefore have to kill Aerith a second time yourself. On the other hand, you are able to revive Aerith at anytime anyway once you get the Highwind, so you could kill Aerith and get the ribbon, then revive her then at no cost aside from not being able to use her for a while, which if you're familiar with the game is probably how you're used to it in the first place. (Though if you went into the mod blind, you won't know about that option.)
  • In one of the rare instances of the idle models of the party members being used to create a sad moment, they are actually gathered around the lake in which Aerith was buried at the beginning of Disk 2. They are of course displaying varying degrees of shock and grief. Yuffie is shown crying in a corner while denying that she's crying if talked to, Cait Sith/Reeve is remembering Aerith's last words to him, Cid is reminiscing about the friends he lost during the Wutai war, Tifa is looking in silence at the water, and Red XIII howls sorrowfully. Barret and Vicent offer Cloud encouraging words.
  • The Mod extends the flashback scene of Zack's death by adding a combat during which Cloud (as a stand-in for Zack) has to fight waves of enemies. Between the rain, the fact that Cloud/Zack is alone, and the sad On the Other Side of the Mountain OST, this fight is pretty good at conveying a feeling of hopelesness. Especially if you go for the scene right after it's unlocked, which the mod encourages to do if Aerith is still alive with a scripted conversation, as at that point of the game it's pretty much a Hopeless Boss Fight.note 
  • If you go to retrieve Vincent's fourth Limit Break, you will witness Lucrecia lose herself to the Jenova cells and transform into a monster. The party has no choice but mercy-kill her, and afterwards Vincent can only wish her to rest in peace.
  • One that's only in the older versions, like 1.5, that featured an optional dungeon called the Dark Cave. Basically, this dungeon is a huge illusion recreating the town of Midgar, created by a creature implied to be a failed clone of Sephiroth. At one point, the party is attacked by some sort of chimera using the bodies of Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie. At the end of the fight, Barret has to shoot dead the bodies of his fallen comrades. One after the other. The following moment of silence - with Barret, Tifa, and Cloud simply lowering their heads - is deafening.
