Tear Jerker / Crisis (2014)

• Obviously, the kidnapping itself causes quite a lot of stress, in-universe, for the parents and teenagers in question.
• The Ambassador from Pakistan and his wife are clearly very conflicted over what they've been told to do to get their son back, which is to kill the resident intelligence officer (as it turns out, he was only knocked out), grab his key card, and allow the American soldiers hidden behind a vault door to be removed by a SWAT team.
• Just as Sharlene is released, she discovers her father died from a CIA sniper shot.
  • Which is made even more sad by the fact that she really wanted the kidnappers to demand a ransom from her parents so that she could go home. She may end up unnecessarily blaming herself for her father's death for the rest of her life.
• Jakob Vries may be the boss of a South African mercenary company but it's hard not to empathize with his love for his children and his distaste for the way Gibson manipulates the parents by using their children against them. Especially that scene where he gets all of about a minute with his daughter before he's under arrest.
• In order to get her son back, Xia Liao must unleash a cyberattack that cripples the United States infrastructure, even though the virus will almost certainly lead to a war with China. She initially goes through with it, but after seeing all the ensuing carnage, she goes and undoes the damage. And thus, she and her husband become the first Ballard parents to lose their kid...
• One of the death squad soldiers, Hawkins, admits he feels nothing over strangling his father to death and quietly asks Dunn to "put a bullet in his head".
• In the series finale, the death of the First Lady and her husband and son's reaction.
• Despite everything he's done, Gibson's utterly shattered expression when Beth Ann turns on him can be hard to watch. In his own twisted way, he truly did love his daughter, and learning that she now hates him completely pushes him over the edge.
