Tear Jerker / Beware of Chicken

• V2 C85: The immediate aftermath of Shrouded Mountain kidnapping Tigu shows the depth of that sect's casual cruelty. Tigu's locked in a cage, bloodied and bruised. Rags ^note Dong Chou is left bleeding out with his chest torn open. With "Loud Boy" Zang Wei, they went a step further and destroyed his cultivation on top of beating him senseless. And yet, the first words out of Zang Wei's mouth when Xiulan finds him?
  “Gotta warn them, gotta warn them, gotta warn them…” he whispered repeatedly as he hiccuped a sob. Blood splattered to the ground from his mouth as he coughed.
  • The lad's future as a cultivator has been crushed, and he's leaving a trail of blood with every step, but the first thing on his mind is warning his friends.
  • Tigu is finally able to understand why Jin left cultivator society when a group of Lu Ban's subordinates beat her into submission, and nearly kill Rags and Loud Boy for trying to stop them from kidnapping her.
  • In the dungeon of the temporary lodgings of the Shrouded Mountain, Tigu has to transform into her animal form to escape, but she despises who she was as a cat. Someone she feels was never loved and only ever tolerated, who she looks back on as a failure. Her inability to go back to that form, even with freedom in front of her, underscores how much she loves being human and her family and friends. It takes Ri Zu encouraging her that they love her, no matter the form, and that Rags and Loud Boy lived, to be able to summon the willpower to transform.
• Interlude: King of the World reveals that Shen Yu had only one biological child, a son named Shen Bu. Unfortunately, he was an overly indulgent father, which resulted in Shen Bu growing up to become a monster so powerful and horrible that he had to put him down with his own hands.
  • Shen Yu later has a flashback about this moment and noted that his son smiled as he put him down like a mad dog.
• After Jin tells his grandfather that he has no interest in ascending to the heavens and is fine with eventually dying, Shen Yu gets mad and has a brief spar with Jin before begging his grandson to strive for ascension so that he doesn't have to bury him like he did Shen Bu, only for Jin to deny him.
  Shen Yu: Jin, I do not wish to bury another son before I pass. Please. Please. Tell me. What can convince you to leave this path?
  Jin: Nothing.
