Tear Jerker / Ben-Hur (1959)

• Judah's descent to hell, from betrayal by Messala — the man he thought was his friend — to his mistreatment by the Romans and time as a galley slave.
  • Judah being specifically denied water by the Roman decurion during the long march on the way to the port of Tyr under the blazing sun of Judea. He ends up falling to his knees out of thirst and tearfully implores God to help him. Enter the carpenter's son.
• Judah coming back to Jerusalem, finding his ancestral home in a decrepit state.
• Messala's demise and Judah eventually, learning about the true fate of his mother and sister, who have become lepers and have been exiled to the Valley of the Lepers as a result. It's downright heartbreaking to see him despair behind a rock, hiding away from his mother and sister as they requested him to never see them again given their state, until he can no more and comes at them.
• Judah bumping right into the final stages of the Christ's Passion, culminating with the Crucifixion.
  • Judah tries to give Jesus water the same way Jesus helped him back when he was enslaved and suddenly recognizes him, only to get thrown aside by the Romans a moment later.
