We are a society of people who want trope names that are both clever and sensical. We are supporters of Main/AddedAlliterativeAppeal, Main/JustForPun, and Main/ThisTropeNameReferencesItself. The debate about cultural references ultimately results in fewer dynamic trope names, whether they are as lame as RedemptionDemotion or as confusing as TheRadar. In this way we are allies of Main/{{KNIVES}}, and side with Main/{{SPOON}} and Main/FoRKS depending on the conflict (though over time, so many infractions appear on both sides it's hard to like either).

A guideline: Platter will generally support HotForStudent or ScrewTheRulesIHavePlot as titles compared to others they have had in their lifetimes. These are cultural references, but simultaneously amusing and clear descriptions. NewRulesAsThePlotDemands is blandly ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin, while MaryKayLetourneauTeachesHere is unnecessarily obtuse.

Some more guidelines: If a {{SPOON}} endorsed name is MORE obtuse, it's probably a bad sign. OnlySaneEmployee sounds like the office's version of OnlySaneMan, not LizLemonJob. If the change is pretty arbitrary, such as OcularGushers as opposed to HighPressureTears or EmptyQuiver, that's also a bad sign. On the {{FORKS}} angle of things: Using tropes to name other tropes, with the exception of a StockPhrase, is probably a bad idea if the usage is outside of the popular lexicon or TropesOfLegend. Likewise for TropeNamers that are not TropeOverdosed and popular IRL, or characters as trope namers that don't pass the OneMarioLimit test.

I'm open to clever and funny titles, mainly because I prefer the laid back style of the wiki. I come here to laugh and learn at the same time.

This site is supposed to be ''humorous'' first and foremost, with comprehensibility a secondary concern, and by taking the funny out of the titles and jettisoning other bits of awesome (I refer to Troper Tales being hacked off into its own site), the site is losing its primary appeal.

Although I don't like the title changes that has been sweeping the site for a while now and I did like the names of some of those tropes that you needed some info to understand without checking out the page, I believe that trope names should always be witty.
