All of the game's writers are '''huge''' nerds and it ''really'' shows as they slip in [[ReferenceOverdosed references to everything]] under the sun.

** The event story is basically a ''[[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure Steel Ball Run]]'' parody, with Ishtar giving each team some golden bones to bring to the Underworld to revive someone. The part 2, being a prison break, is a parody of ''Stone Ocean'' (or ''Film/TheStoryOfRicky'') instead.

* The Challenge Quest for Sei Shonagon's Valentines is her and Zhugeliang. In NA, Zhuge liang is "Ya Boy Great Teacher" while in Japanese it was " パリピ孔明" ie Party Person Great Teacher. Both are references to ''[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ya_Boy_Kongming! Ya Boy Kong Ming]]'' and its original Japanese title.

* Tamamo Cat's paws are based on gloves that Tamamo got from Santa Nero from the ''TYPE-MOON Ace Omake Theatre ― Tell Me!! Ms Blossom'' Christmas animation. One of her Extra Attack quotes (which was lost in translation, unfortunately) is a direct reference to ''Film/{{Commando}}'': the part where Arnie says "ILied".

* Tamamo Cat's paws are based on gloves that Tamamo got from Santa Nero from the ''TYPE-MOON Ace Omake Theatre ― Tell Me!! Ms Blossom'' Christmas animation.

* ''Grand Order'''s iteration of Literature/SherlockHolmes is noticeably younger than the original, and very much a {{Bishonen}}, such that he's almost a dead-ringer for Creator/BenedictCumberbatch's portrayal of him in ''Series/{{Sherlock}}'' (minus the wavy hair), particularly in [[Recap/SherlockSpecialTheAbominableBride "The Abominable Bride."]] Much of his outfit (apart from the lens-wielding corset) [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap_2016_08_12_00h13m41s187.png is virtually lifted off that particular episode]].[[note]]It's probably also appropriate that Cumberbatch's version of Sherlock once said "[[Recap/SherlockS02E03TheReichenbachFall I may be on the side of the angels. * Yamato Takeru's Second Ascension puts them in a high schooler's uniform and with a cap and glasses out of nowhere. This outfit makes Takeru look like a PaletteSwap of Naoto Shirogane from ''VideoGame/Persona4'', who wields Yamato Takeru as her Ultimate Persona.

* During ''Halloween Rising'' one of the Marchen/Fairy Tale quests are BB as [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Literature/TheTaleOfTheBambooCutter Princess Kaguya.]] She has a buff representing each of the Impossible Tasks; however; if you have Beni-enma in your party; those buffs will go away after one round wiht Benienma in the first round because part of of plot of ''Sparrow's Inn Daily Report'' was Chaldea getting her those impossible items. The debuff even has her saying that "I Have the Things Everyone Has Collected Before Here Chirp"

** Additionally one of her missiles in her Noble Phantasm has a distinct octopus clinging on. This combined with pictures her artist CHOCO has made on their twitter account makes it apparent this is a ''VideoGame/Parodius'' reference.
