Lou Zhu and Zuo Yun Qi
  • While initially deterred from Zuo Yun Qi's plea for help since he had attempted to pose as a traveler, Lou Zhu ends up going along with it so Zuo Yun Qi wouldn't be beaten to death. Later one after his father disowns him, Lou Zhu happily takes Zuo Yun Qi under his wing at Best Tower, under the pretense that the other owes him a debt since he inadvertently destroyed Best Tower.
  • Before Zuo Yun Qi sets off, Lou Zhu carefully straightens his outfit and tells him to be careful.
  • In the season 1 finale, Lou Zhu arguably says some cruel things in order for Zuo Yun Qi to not get involved in his affairs with the Emperor trying to drag out Tuo Huang. He even goes as far as to say he was complicit in the Emperor's crimes, crushing Zuo Yun Qi's trust in him and the boy runs away in tears.
    • Yet when Lou Zhu seemingly sacrifices himself and is trapped in the cave-in Zuo Yun Qi is the one desperately digging at the rocks and crying for Lou Zhu.

     Prince Yu and Li Ke
  • The fact that these two get a lot of screen-time especially in the ending song which revolves around the two of them, as well as Prince Yu's best friend who Li Ke transmigrated into.
    • Even more so in the finale of season 1 where Li Ke's voice actor sings the ending song himself.
  • Prince Yu is already noted to be a cold person, yet his entire demeanor seems to change around Li Ke, where even his most personal guard seems surprised when they see this.
  • In the donghua Prince Yu asks if there's anything Li Ke knows how to do, he admits he's only an illustration student and once his guards threaten him, he starts rambling that he can cook and amongst other things he can warm the bed.
  • Li Ke shows great concern over Prince Yu when he hears little bits of the Prince's past, even touching him and asking if he had scars anywhere. The donghua ramps up this scene by having Prince Yu lean so close to Li Ke the other's back is on the table and he stabs a knife close to Li Ke's face.
    • When guessing the prince's past, Li Ke waxes on about Prince Yu having a childhood friend whom he fell in love with but was stolen away by the Empror. However, his childhood friend was the person Li Ke transmigrated into, and he was murdered in his guess, by the Emperor.
  • While sitting outside in a pagoda, Li Ke notices the flute in the prince's hand and offers to play for him. Although his playing is terrible, Prince Yu actually smiles and looks content.
  • Annoyed at being cooped up and guessing he'll be killed after he kills the Emperor with his food, Li Ke whines to Prince Yu that he wants to see the world and cries about his life being too short. Prince Yu then quietly agrees and Li Ke happily prances away as Prince Yu's guard is left speechless. Earlier when a guard sniggers at Li Ke's quietness Prince Yu coldly asks what he was laughing at, causing the guard to quickly bow and explain himself.
  • When Li Ke is taking by Tuo Huang, he admits that while he wasn't treated the best, he doesn't believe Prince Yu would ever hurt him although. However he only says this around Zuo Yun Qi since he stopped him from saying it aloud during the Tuo Huang assembly.
  • Jiao Jiao Ran takes Li Ke back to Prince Yu and while the former is happy to see the other, Prince Yu tries to act nonchalant and says Li Ke was his prisoner. Then he gently takes a leaf out of Li Ke's hair.
