DVD box set for the complete series
An ITV British police drama, that ran for five series between 1990 and 1995. The Series focussed on the the Chief Constable of the fictional “Eastland Constabulary” as he dealt with department politics and government bureaucracy. The titular “chief” was initially John Stafford (Tim Pigott-Smith), later replaced by Alan Cade (Martin Shaw).Tropes:
- Beleaguered Bureaucrat: The title characters themselves, serve as this at times.
- Da Chief: John Stafford in Series 1-3, Alan Cade in Series 3-5.
- Dirty Cop: Several. A pet hate of both the chiefs.
- Obstructive Bureaucrat: Stafford and Cade come across many of these throughout the series.
- Passing the Torch: The final scene of Series 3, Episode 2:
Stafford: Don't look keen.Cade: Don't look back.- Reasonable Authority Figure: Stafford and Cade.
