Red Eye (2024, 紅眼航班) is a 6-episode Conspiracy Thriller released on the UK's ITV channel in April 2024. A doctor suspected of murder in Beijing is speedily extradited back to China on the night flight, but not all is what it seems about the case as other bodies start to pile up.
Red Eye provides examples of the following tropes:
- Arc Words: "blindsided" starting in Episode 3
- Coincidental Broadcast: the news report about nuclear reactors playing in the background in Episode 1 turns out to be important later
- Cool Code of Source: in Episode 6, the nuclear reactor meltdown code (it's actually Python that writes messages while doing nothing)
- Episode on a Plane: much of the middle part of the series is set on a plane
- Everything Is Online: nuclear reactors are connected to the Internet. (In reality, critical safety and security systems at nuclear energy plants are isolated from the Internet.)
- but if the meltdown code was a ruse, it's possible that the reactor was not really connected to the Internet and the protagonists were merely tricked into believing it was as part of the ruse
- Flashbacks: several are shown as we gradually find out more about the case under investigation
- Foreshadowing: in Episode 1, Nolan is told he has no rights because he's "not on British soil" until he passes through immigration. In the final episode, the villain working for the CIA is tricked into chasing his quarry into the Chinese Embassy where he also has no rights because he's "not on British soil" and can be apprehended for a much more severe punishment.
- Inter-Service Rivalry: MI6 versus MI5 (at least their leaders don't see eye-to-eye)
- Just Plane Wrong: why does that Boeing 777 have four thrust levers?
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Might Dr Matthew Nolan's name be a subtle reference to Peter Nolan CBE
? - Unspoken Plan Guarantee: when arranging for the bad guy to be apprehended in the Chinese Embassy we cut from the protagonists starting to make the plan to it succeeding
