"Would you look for your brother? Please, find him. His name is Mahardika. Tell him about my condition."
Ririn

Jejak Suara Adzan (lit. Trail of Adhan Voice) is an Indonesian Islamic-drama miniseries aired on NET and produced by NET and Limelight Pictures. Set and originally aired in Ramadan of 2018, the miniseries focuses on an aspiring selebgram Dimas, whose mother Ririn recently collapse due to heart problem. Ririn reveals that Dimas has a Long-Lost Relative named Dika and asks Dimas to find Dika before her heart operation. Leaving Ririn in take care of his best friend Mila, Dimas travels and turns his search for Dika into Instagram content. Dimas' journey leads him to Pesantren Al-Haadii, a pesantren (Indonesian Islamic boarding school) in Tasikmalaya that seems to be deeply connected with Dika. All the while he is there, Dimas learns Islamic values and practices with help from the pesantren owner Kyai Leman and falls in love with Leman's niece Zahra.

Jejak Suara Adzan contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Adoptive Name Change: When Dimas asks Ririn whether his brother Mahardika has more names, Ririn tells Dimas to just look for Mahardika since Dika's adoptive parents might have given him more names. In episode 9, Zahra points out that Dika's name might be not Mahardika at all anymore. As it turns out, Dika's full name is now Putra Ramadhan. His parents changed it not long after the adoption because Dika was often sick, as practiced by some Indonesian culture.
  • Ambiguous Ending: For the romance subplot. In the epilogue, Zahra's husband is said to be bringing her some fruits. Dimas and Putra do it at the same time, with no further explanation about who is the husband.
  • Bittersweet Ending: On the bright side, Ririn gets to meet Dika/Putra before her operation as she hoped, reuniting the family. On the other hand, Ririn doesn't survive the postoperative period.
  • Character Development: Throughout the series, Dimas goes from someone who doesn't care much for his religious practice to someone who actively learns them. He becomes less obnoxious about his Instagram career and learns how to interact with Zahra better.
  • Credits Montage: Every episode ends with a montage of screenshots from the episode while the finale's credits has a montage of screenshots from the whole series.
  • Distant Finale: The epilogue jumps five years, when Zahra is married and pregnant and Dimas or Putra is her husband.
  • Dramatic Drop: In the penultimate episode, Ririn drops the cup that she was holding, shattering it, when she collapses unconscious due to her heart problems.
  • Dramatic Irony: By episode 7, the audience has given enough clues about who is Dika, short of an actual confirmation. The characters only find out about the necessary clue (Dika's adopted mother and Putra's mother have the same name) in the last episode. One particulary ironic moment is when Dimas comments that, for a moment, he thought Putra is his brother, but shrugs it off as impossible.
  • Dream Sequence:
    • Episode 2 has a short sequence, seen from first-person perspective, filtered and filled with bubbles, when a half-asleep Dimas in Jakarta dreams of Zahra telling him that she has found Dika and asks him to go back to Tasikmalaya. It's treated more like a sign that Dimas is really in love with Zahra and it motivates him to go back to the pesantren. Though it turns out to be quite prophetic as Dika/Putra is indeed in Tasikmalaya and Zahra is the first to figure out that they are the same person.
    • Episode 4 has a scene where Ririn has a dream where Dimas returns after finding Dika, but he says that Dika wants nothing to do with Ririn after she gave him away to another family. Mila and Ike assure Ririn that it's just a dream and it won't happen. Indeed, Dika/Putra has no ill will towards her and his first instinct after finding out about his adoption is to fulfill Ririn's wish.
  • Extra-Long Episode: The finale runs for 49 minutes when the rest of series never pass the 40-minutes mark.
  • The Faceless: Downplayed. When Putra's father first appears, his face is always hidden from the camera until the last scene of the episode shows his face and reveals that he is Dika's adopted father.
  • Feigning Healthiness: Happens twice between Dimas and his mother as they are in different cities for most of the series so it's slightly easier to do this. Both times, they don't want to make each other worry.
    • Ririn once faints due to her heart disease. When she regains consciousness in a hospital, she phones Dimas to ask about Dika and pretends as if nothing happened.
    • Later, Ririn has a feeling that something happens to Dimas and phones him. Dimas convinces his mother that he is okay, when in reality, he has a fever.
  • Fish out of Water: Dimas has this problem when he first lives in the pesantren, as he struggles with doing tarawih and tahajjud prayers (which he usually skips back in his home) and dealing with mosquitos there.
  • Flashback-Montage Realization: In the last episode, Putra has a flashback to several moments when Dimas talks to him about Dika, which visibly makes him feels bad for never realizing that he could be Dika.
  • Foreshadowing: Putra is initially introduced as just a random, very-helpful person that happens to know someone who might be Dimas' brother. Then, the show has Putra noticing something about Dimas' motorcycle, foreshadowing that he was Kyai Leman's student too and recognized Kyai Leman's bike.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Dimas and Mila have been friends since childhood and their relationship remains platonic even in the present. The relationship between their families are also so close, Mila considers Ririn her other mother.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Dika is Dimas' long-lost older brother, having been adopted by another family when Dimas is an infant.
  • Mistaken for Romance: When Dimas is phoned by Mila in front of Zahra, Dimas teases Mila like usual which makes Zahra thinks Dimas is talking to his girlfriend. Zahra is glad when she finds out that they are just best friends.
  • Nice Guy: Putra, who offers to help Dimas despite barely knowing him simply because he wants to help. Even when jealous that Putra seems to be more liked by Zahra's family, Dimas admits that he should have expected it considering how nice Putra is. The angriest he has ever been is when ordering Dimas to stop helping him, which he did rather calmly considering what Dimas' mistake cost him and he even regrets it quickly.
  • Opening Monologue: The first episode begins with Dimas telling the viewers about the use of social media, leading up to how he is trying to use it in order to become famous.
  • Parents Know Their Children: When Ririn first sees Putra in a video call, she is stunned and, although she claims it's nothing at that moment, later confirms that she thought she is seeing Dika, which turns out to be true.
  • Pop-Up Texting: All text messages in the series are shown to the audience via a pop-up.
  • Previously on…: With the exception of (naturally) the first one, every episode begins with a recap of the previous one.
  • The Reveal: The final scene of episode 6 reveals that Putra's parents are Dika's adopted parents, while the next one reveals that Putra has a birthmark on his left arm just like Dika. It all but explicitly confirms Dika's identity, which the characters only realizes at the last episode.
  • Roommate Drama: When Dimas first becomes Amin's roommate, Amin must deal with Dimas borrowing all of his personal hygiene products and complaining about the mosquitos, so he is glad when Dimas leaves. However, after Dimas comes back, they start bonding more and helping each other to the point Amin is sad when Dimas leaves again.
  • Searching for the Lost Relative: Main plot is Dimas' journey to find his older brother Dika, who was given up for adoption by their mother when Dimas was a baby, at his regretful mother's request before she undergoes a heart operation.
  • Sick Episode: Downplayed. Dimas falls sick in the last act of episode 5 and the first half of episode 6 is mainly about taking care of him.
  • Solemn Ending Theme: The ending theme, "Indah Pada Waktunya", is a solemn song about people being apart.
  • Soup Is Medicine: When Dimas is sick, it's revealed that the only thing he could eat in that condition is his mother's soup.
  • The Stinger: The last episode has a post-credits scene for the "five-years later" epilogue.

"Even if you fail to find Dika, at least, you've become a better person, just like what Mom want."
