Sandbox / Pride Parent

Go To

In some stories when a parent learns their child is queer, they often times aren't very accepting. Maybe they will be in denial, maybe they asked/force them to conformed to "normalcy", or worst case reject them. Pride Parents, however, are parents who are accepting of their child being queer.

Often times they are already aware that their child are queer and didn't say anything because they wanted them to come out on their own terms.

Even if a parent is at first uncomfortable with their child coming out, they quickly turn around. Most often realizing nothing really changed with their child and that they still love them.

Can be used to show a parent has more depth. The child may think their parents are distant or that they don't really care about them. But the fact they accept them for who they are show that they do care.

Not unheard of of one parent being ok with their queer child while the other isn't.

Overlap with Open-Minded Parent. Contrast with Delayed Family Acceptance.
