May Day

As I was now handling the draft for Walpurisnacht, an idea popped out of my head. Why not a significant holiday to accompany it, and it's more often celebrated than Walpurgisnacht? So I did.

Whereas the 1st of April makes every head shake with all of the jokes, pranks, and tongue-in-cheek trolling, the 1st of May makes everyone anticipate for summer.

May Day is oftentimes a special day for much of the northern hemisphere, as it signifies the transition from springtime to summer. The highlights of the celebration are celebrants dancing around the ribbon-covered maypole and a Beauty Contest on who shall be the May Queen. May Day's origins came from pagan celebrations such as the Irish Beltaine and the Roman celebration of Floralia. As Christianity spread in Europe, it was transplanted to originally St. Walpurga, an 8th century English missionary who converted pagans to Christianity in Germany, and later, to the Virgin Mary.

In the 19th century, with the emergence of socialist movements, workers and trade unionists arranged for a celebration for laborers and of the working class for their efforts. Originally proposed in September during the early 1880s, it was then shifted to the 1st of May in commemoration of the "Haymarket riots" in Chicago at 4 May 1886. The United States and Canada chose September due to that fiasco, but internationally, the 1st of May is celebrated as Labor Day or International Workers' Day.

If anything, the 1st of May is celebrated as both a day of fertility and of labor.

I might need help with the description and the examples. Also, how is this day associated with the common distress call?
