Roleplay / Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Lament Of The Stars

"In every time and place, the deeds of men remain the same."

"It was a turbulent period of civil war and civil strife. The specter of war, in the form of the mass proliferation of weapons and weapons technology, continued its creep into an era of much needed peace. The Zeon Remnants, in the name of their forsaken homeland, continued to wage war against the Earth Federation. The Earth Federation created the Titans, an elite counter-terrorism task force, in the aftermath of Admiral Aguille Delaz’s Operation Stardust."

"In everyone’s mind, the same question was looming: “What is to be done?”''

A Play-by-Post online roleplay game that takes place in Gundam's "Universal Century" timeline, Lament starts as a combination of a Retcon/Side Story of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Beginning concurrently with the start of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam proper, it is the story of two groups headed on a collision course.

On one side, is the Sixth Replenishment Squadron of the Anti-Earth Union Group, prepared to fight back against as a response to the suppression tactics of the ruthless Titans following their chemical weapon attack as part as the 30 Bunch Incident . The Sixth has been working together for about two months under the tutelage of Eddy LeNoire, one of the AEUG’s senior trainers. A pilot from one of the AEUG’s top teams is rumored to be en route to evaluate the Sixth’s pilots for potential inclusion in their elite unit...

The other is the Titans new Fifteenth Tactical Mobile Suit Squadron has been stationed on Luna II for final workups under LCDR James T. Ennis. They’ve been working together for about five months, doing their workups in preparation for a counter-piracy deployment as they complete their own training workups prior to their expected deployment date in six months...

The board is mostly a cinematic system, but it does include some measure of class specification in "Paradigm" and "Weapon Specialty." The former generally describes the character's attitude on combat, and conveys certain bonus skills the player can invoke in combat, while the latter describes what weapons that character prefers and at what range they enjoy fighting at the most. While currently not binding, terms for how serious trouble a character is in is represented by terminology from Edge of the Empire, itself a largely cinematic system.

Originally started here it was moved to it's present location as it gave the administrators a greater deal of control over formatting.

This game provides examples of:

  • The Alcoholic: Chuck Finley of the AEUG. His introduction as a character is him waking up from a bender, wishing he was dead. His next action is to shoot stims so that he's sober enough to fly.
  • Ask a Stupid Question...: Jaime responds to a question this way:
MP: "Please confirm, are you the 15th Tactical Mobile Suit Squadron?"
Jaime: [deadpan] "No, we're the other irradiated Mobile Suit Squadron you had sent out here with the 15th's flash on our shoulders..."
  • Butt-Monkey: Jaime tends to typically run into situations where he ends in ridicule, embarrassment and punishment details. Not that he doesn't deserve it.
  • Cool Shades: Eddy LeNoire sports a particularly stylish pair of Teashades. And of course, there's Quattro Bajeena and his distinctive pair of sunglasses.
  • Elites Are More Glamorous: Both Eddy LeNoire and James T. Ennis flew as part of the same unit during the war, the Sweeper Corps, a special operations group created by Jamitov Hynem and ultimately used as inspiration for the Titans further down the road.
  • Enemy Mine: The Sixth's pilots consist of Federation defectors, Zeon survivors, civilian militiamen, and one Titan defector. They sometimes have trouble getting along, but all agree that the Titans need to be taken down.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Jaime Neston and Katharyn Holcroft are foils for each other: similar country of origin, similar back stories, etc. But Jaime is boisterous, passionate and outgoing with a short temper. Katharyn is reserved, stoic and quiet, but carries her anger tightly wound. As a side bonus, their color schemes match.
  • White-and-Grey Morality: The AEUG are rightfully outraged over the continual Federation subjugation of colonies, and the increasingly vicious tactics shown by the Titans. Meanwhile, most members of the Titans are either unaware of, or don't trust the evidence of the 30 Bunch Incident and believe they are hunting pirates and remnants of Zeon, who have twice preformed a Colony Drop to massive civilian casualties.
