Recap / Yu Gi Oh SEVENS Ep 37 Crookluke

Go To

Feeling responsible for leading his friends into Chevelle's "trumpet duet competition" trap, Luke challenges him to a Duel. However, Chevelle tells him that he'll be facing Dove-rap the pigeon instead.

Tropes:

  • Amplified Animal Aptitude: Hatrap, who is the brains of the group and is the duelist, as Schwer plays the cards. However, Schwer doesn't always listen, making the fatal error of summoning a second copy of his ace that allows Luke to defeat him...something that Hatrap realizes when he plays it and hits him for it.
  • Casual-Competitive Conflict: To help Luke out of his depression against Schwer's continuous traps and LP drain, Yuga convinces Luke to just have fun with it and continue the duel by pointing out how exciting it is to be unprepared and keep going.
  • Clip-Art Animation: Twice, in the first, Schwer and Dove-rap trapped Luke in a unconscious, mental state where he used clip board cutouts out of Yuga, Gakuto, and Romin to Leaning Onthe Fourth Wall, getting Luke to pretend the absurdity of the arc never happened, including pointing how how weird Goha 6th Elementary could force the Rush Duel Club and the Nanahoshi siblings to transfer to another school. It breaks when Schwer uses his catchphrase pretending to be Yuga one too many times.
    • The second time, Yuga uses a cardboard cut out of himself to get through to Luke when the latter is mentally stuck and forgets everyone and everything around him, slowly helping Luke to remember Yuga and his dream.
  • Cuteness Overload: Luke's Disspure Dragon is so adorable, Romin absolutely fawns over it. Even it's summoning chant is a lot more cute oriented than most of the other high level tribute summons.
  • Heroic BSoD: As Schwer and Dove-rap planned, Luke breaks down from not being able to counter Schwer's traps and traps himself in a mental labyrinth, too afraid to continue the duel. Yuga and the others help him out.
  • The Idealist: Yuga continues to act as the motivator to the group, convincing Luke that his situation isn't the end of the world and he can still enjoy the duel through seeing them as an exciting obstacle. It pushes Luke enough to get back his fighting spirit and finish the duel in a better mindset.
  • Inspirational Insult: Yuga makes fun of Luke's dream to be the King of the Duels in order to get Luke to remember his purpose and regain his confidence in the duel.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: One of the many things Schwer and Hatrap says to make fun of Luke, a reference to Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
  • So Unfunny, It's Funny: Dove-rap's insults to Luke are so absurd that Gakuto, Romin, and even Yuga can't even handle just how bizarre Luke is affected.
  • You Are Not Alone: Gakuto and Romin were also calling out for Luke while he was mentally exhausted, trusting him to continue with the duel
