• Excellent Judge of Character: Unlike Jaden, Jesse instantly takes Syrus’ worries seriously about Professor Viper’s sketchy intentions. Jesse also correctly points out to Jaden that messing with Axel isn’t a wise move, as Axel is Viper’s protégé. Both Jesse and Syrus’ suspicions ultimately turn out to be true.
• Kick the Dog: Axel kidnapping Syrus, using him as bait to challenge Jaden to a duel. Oh, and having Syrus’ life literally hanging by a thread to fuel Jaden with motivation to duel under pressure.
• Playing with Fire: Axel uses a Volcanic themed deck.
• Red Oni, Blue Oni: Jaden and Jesse being very similar is something everyone points out, but this episode shows a distinction between the two, with Jesse being more down-to-earth and sensible than the carefree Jaden.
  • Jesse also is more considerate of Syrus’ worries about the Survival Duels and Viper, while Jaden shrugs it off as Syrus overreacting.
