• Broken Pedestal: Zane quickly loses all respect for Jaden upon realising that he's willing to throw away everything he believes in just to have a chance at beating him.
• Irony: In his desperation to beat Zane, Jaden ends up turning into the very kind of duelist Zane despises.
• Smug Snake: Shockingly enough, Jaden. Jaden believes the only way to beat Zane is to play on his terms. Unfortunately, this causes him to get cocky and think Zane will pull the exact same moves he did last time, only to be caught off-guard when he doesn't. He's essentially less focused on having fun like he usually is and more focused on defeating his opponent, ironically disrespecting him in the process. It doesn't help that every time Zane calls him out on this, Jaden just dismisses it as Zane messing with his head.
• Worthy Opponent: Jaden to Zane. Made especially clear in the dub, where Zane calls Jaden the only one worthy of being his final opponent at Duel Academy.
