Its the first exam of the school year both written and practical. Jaden is excited for rematch against Chazz. That won't be easy when Crowler purchased all the new cards to give Chazz's deck a power boost.
- Badass Normal: First episode where Jaden doesn't fuse his monsters.
- Cuteness Proximity: All the female students adore Jaden's Winged Kuriboh.
- Karmic Jackpot: For helping Ms. Dorothy push her car earlier, who works in the academy's card shop, she gives Jaden a booster pack containing Transcendent Wings and Winged Kuriboh Level 10, which proves instrumental in defeating Chazz.
- Mythology Gag: Being a Kaiba expy, Chazz summons XYZ Dragon Cannon, along with VW Tiger Wing Catapult and combines them into VWXYZ Dragon Catapult Cannon.
- Rank Up: Subverted. Chancellor Sheppard promotes Jaden to Ra Yellow for defeating Chazz, but Jaden declines since Slifer Red is where Syrus is.
- Taking You with Me: Winged Kuriboh Level 10's ability. When attacked, it can sacrifice itself and destroy all of the monsters in Attack Mode on the opponents' field and deal damage equal to their combined original ATK. This wipes out Chazz's VWXYZ Dragon Catapult Cannon, reduced him to just 1,000 life points the same as Jaden, and leaves him completely open to a direct attack.
- Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: Bastion says this about Jaden being ordered to duel a higher-ranked student (blatantly against the academy rules) with an entire deck of new, powerful cards.Bastion: This is clearly a trap. Only a cavalier fool would agree to it.
