Yuya Sakaki is an eighth-grader who, because of his father abandoning his Championship Match against Strong Ishijima, has taken a big responsibility for his family. He has hardly made the time to duel due to the debts pushed onto him. That changes when Nico Smiley, Ishijima's manager, gives him an opportunity to Duel him personally. During the duel, Yuya's pendant suddenly glows, causing him to unlock a new power in the form of a new Summoning type - Pendulum Summon.
