Go To

"Baptists, Catholics and an Attempted Drowning" is an episode of Young Sheldon that first aired April 4, 2024.

Missy drinks coffee, having been kept up all night by people having sex. Mary apologizes, but Missy says that it was actually Georgie & Mandy. Mary is not comfortable with them doing it out of wedlock, so she goes to talk to them about their wedding, and Georgie & Mandy agree to get married soon.

Mandy goes to tell her parents Jim & Audrey about the wedding, and to Mandy's surprise, Audrey approves it and wants to be part of it, and even offers to pay for an expensive church wedding (instead of a city hall wedding like Mandy was planning).

Later, while planning the wedding, Mary and Audrey get into an argument over whether the wedding should be Baptist or Catholic. Both of them go and baptize CeeCee into their respective churches behind Mandy's back. Mandy is furious, but Georgie doesn't mind, since Mary and Audrey were both only trying to help; Georgie then gets exiled to the garage for the night.

Meanwhile, Sheldon is mad at Evan after he upgraded Sheldon's computer. While Sheldon agrees that the upgrades were good, he doesn't like that Evan installed them without Sheldon's permission. In the garage, Sheldon tells Georgie about the computer situation, and Georgie realizes the similarity with his own situation.

The next morning, Mandy is having breakfast with Connie & Dale, who say that Mary and Audrey need to face consequences for what they did. Georgie then comes over with flowers for Mandy, and they decide to get married at city hall that day, without telling their parents.

Tropes:

  • Escort Distraction: While out on a walk, Audrey sees a cute sweater at a store window and suggests that Mandy go inside and buy it while she takes care of CeCe ... which is just an excuse to get CeCe baptized behind Mandy's back.
  • Exiled to the Couch: Mandy kicks Georgie out of the bedroom because he didn't understand why Mary and Audrey baptizing CeCe without consent was bad.
  • Oblivious Guilt Slinging: Sheldon returns to the house because Evan upgraded his computer without asking. He had no idea his situation mirrored that of Mary and Audrey baptizing CeCe without asking, but Mary is guilty enough to confess.
  • Out of Focus Connie only appears in the ending of this episode.
