"Do you wanna tell him, Layla?"
Scott Summers/Cyclops

Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 #492 is Chapter Two of Thirteen in the Messiah Complex event. It was written by Ed Brubaker, pencilled by Billy Tan, inked by Danny Miki and Allen Martinez, colored by Frank D’Armata, lettered by Chris Eliopoulos and edited by Nick Lowe. It has a cover date of January 2008.

In the aftermath of the events of the last issue, Cyclops begins forming a plan. Elsewhere, the X-Men are ambushed by the Acolytes, but they are subdued.

Tropes:

  • Headbutting Heroes: Charles questions Scott’s decision to mobilize the X-Men without his authority to which Scott replies he doesn’t need his decision. Their ensuing argument briefly flares up but eventually calms down.
  • The Infiltration: Due to being depowered in M-Day Scott asks Rictor to infiltrate the Purifiers.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Warren wonders why Scott failed to inform him that the Marauders have Rogue held captive. Logan replies that he probably wanted to keep him focused on the mission and that he wants him focused now.
Warren: Why didn’t Scott tell me that these Marauders were holding Rogue captive, too?
  • Logical Weakness: Neophyte is capable of Intangibility so Nightcrawler defeats him by teleporting them both to the sky where he can nowhere to phase from.
  • Obsolete Mentor: Under Ed Brubaker’s pen, Charles continues to mentor the team but even with his mobility return, he defers to Scott. This is illustrated in a Tearjerker page that has Charles walk away the institute silently while everyone else plans.
