Original airdate: September 5th, 2011

Sonny Days with a Chance of Showers: Just when meteorologist Sonny Days is about to deliver the eagerly-awaited forecast, the Birthday Girl kidnaps him, demanding that he announce her birthday on TV. This part's associated vocabulary words are "precipitation" and "meteorologist".

Seymour... Right After This: When Seymour Orlando Smooth delays announces the winning ticket numbers for his new show "Who Wants to Win an Enormous Amount of Money", Becky gets suspicious. This part's associated vocabulary words are "delay" and "captivated".

"Sonny Days with a Chance of Showers" contains the following tropes:

  • Cutaway Gag: When Becky asks her dad if he thinks the rain is going to mean the big picnic is cancelled, he reminds her of the time it rained at the Arbor Day parade. Cut to a clown sitting sadly on a parade float floating over the flooded streets.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Done for pedagogical reasons. Anthony the reporter calls Sonny Days a "weatherman and meteorologist". A meteorologist is a different word for a weatherman.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Since the episode takes place during a thunderstorm, it's no surprise this trope shows up.
    • After Eileen kidnaps Sonny on live TV, Becky dramatically says that she thinks there's a storm coming. Lightning strikes in the background as she continues, "A Birthday Girl storm."
    • Another dramatic lightning strike comes when Eileen yells at Sonny that it's her birthday after he refuses to announce it without proof due to the "meteorologist code".
  • Epunymous Title: He's only a one-shot character rather than the lead one, but the episode title continues the pun that's already there in weatherman Sonny Days' name.
  • Fantasy Sequence: Mr. Botsford has one where he muses what the world would be like without weather forecasters. It consists of three instances of him opening the door, only to be surprised by snow, summer heat, and finally frog rain.
  • Honor Before Reason: As WordGirl lampshades, things would be much easier if Sonny would just indulge Eileen and report that it's her birthday like she wants. Unfortunately, he is adamant not to break "the meteorologist code" and refuses to do it without proof that it really is her birthday.
  • Idiosyncratic Wipes: Mr. Botsford's Fantasy Sequence about what the world would be like without weather forecasters is kicked off by Sonny Days' head sliding across the screen.
  • Rain of Something Unusual: In the final scene of Mr. Botsford's Fantasy Sequence, after he's been surprised by snow and hot weather in the last two scenes, the weather seems to be normal. Once he hesitantly walks outside, however, it starts to rain frogs.
  • Rule of Three: Utilised when Mr. Botsford has his Fantasy Sequence about what the world would be like without weather forecasters. The first time he opens the door, he's in swimwear, only to find that it is snowy outside. The second time, he is wearing a winter coat, only to find that it's warm and sunny. The third time he's wearing his normal outfit and warily steps outside when the weather seems to be fine. Then it starts raining frogs.
  • Skewed Priorities: Captain HuggyFace has been caught by the gigantic Eileen and WordGirl and Sonny have already been tied together. What's his biggest concern? That WordGirl/Becky has seemingly picked a new partner for the three-lagged race at the picnic the next day, as her pacing together with Sonny makes it look like.
  • Snowy Screen of Death: When Sonny struggles to get free after a gigantic Eileen grabs him, he accidentally kicks the weather forecast camera. It falls over, cutting to static followed by a "technical difficulties" screen.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: Sonny Days, or "sunny days", is a weatherman. Lampshaded when Anthony asks him if they can expect sun, and the two both laugh at the pun.
  • Twitchy Eye: Eileen's eye (and more of her) starts twitching out of anger when Sonny doesn't announce her birthday as part of his congratulations before the weather forecast.
  • We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties: When Sonny is kidnapped by Eileen, the camera cuts to static, followed by this. Unusually for this trope, since he accidentally knocked the camera over while trying to escape, it likely is actually technical difficulties.

"Seymour... Right After This" contains the following tropes:

  • Big "WHY?!": Mrs. Botsford yells this at one point during her anguish over Seymour Smooth constantly delaying revealing the winning numbers for his lottery.
  • Face Palm: Seymour reacts with this when WordGirl captures him and drops him off in prison.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: WordGirl and Captain HuggyFace stop Seymour by using sunglasses and a mirror to reflect his own Twinkle Smile back at him, blinding him instead of them.
  • Running Gag: A commercial for Salad to Go plays after every time Seymour delays revealing the lottery's winning numbers.
  • Tempting Fate: Seymour tells his brothers to hurry up and put the money they stole in the escape car so they can escape before somebody catches them. Cue WordGirl showing up to do just that.
  • Twitchy Eye: Mrs. Botsford gets one as she gets increasingly stressed out waiting for Seymour to announce the lottery's winning numbers.
