The Silver Samurai, an old enemy of Wolverine, kidnaps the X-Men in order to force Wolverine to fight against him in rematch, due having lost to Logan before in a sword fight years ago, causing Logan to see an lover of his, Mariko.

- Bittersweet Ending: Due the Silver Samurai's cheating in their sword fight, Wolverine wins their duel by forfeit, and the leader of the Yakuza clan agrees to release the X-Men as promised while Hirada will be thrown out of Yakuza in disgrace, but Logan must say goodbye to Mariko once more as she is still married Hirada and she swore an oath of loyalty to him when they were married.
- Cheaters Never Prosper: In the second katana duel to the death between Logan and the Silver, where they're not allowed to use their mutant abilities. Once Logan gets the upper hand on Silver Samurai, he blatantly cheats and uses his powers to beat him back. Just as Silver Samurai was about to deal the killing blow to Logan, he gets stopped and knocked out by the Yakuza leader. Because the Silver Samurai broke the no powers rule, in front of witnesses, he loses by default.
- Domestic Abuse: It’s implied Hirada physically abuses Mariko in their marriage especially since he was about to strike her for saying he would lose against Logan in a duel to the death before changing his mind.
- Evil Is Petty: During their second duel Hirada reveals never loved Mariko, he specifically stated to Logan the reason why he married her was so that Logan couldn't.
- Hope Spot: Wolverine and Rogue arrive at the warehouse where the captive X-Men are being held and manage to fight off the Yakuza ninjas there, with Rogue managing to absorb their fighting skills. But the Silver Samurai and Yakuza leader show up and use shurikens with tranquilizing gas to knock them out and the Silver Samurai takes Rogue.
- Pet the Dog: After disqualifying Hirada in his duel with Logan for using his powers when they were not allow, the Yakuza clan Leader assures Logan the captive X-Men will be returned.
