Episode 12: Home Font

Takes place September 18-22

Short version

The Team is ambushed by element-wielding robots, who get the drop on Paul, imprison most team members, and flood Mount Justice, but as per canon, Robin and Artemis save the day.

Longer version

Robin learns about Paul healing Artemis' mother's spine, and brings Paul to a hospital to heal his uncle Rick. Paul can't bring up the avarice to do so, as he is not personally invested in Rick, so he has Robin act as the ring's secondary user to provide the necessary avarice. Robin is initially unsuccessful, as he feels love and compassion, until Paul tells him to remember the moment he lost his family and use the feeling of needing them to be better to use the ring. This works, but it also quickly deteriorates Robin's mind, and Paul is forced to intervene. Robin is happy with the outcome, but concerned about how the ring affected him.

A few days later, the Team minus Robin and Artemis are ambushed by two element-manipulating robots (fire and water), with Paul not in possession of his ring and the others similarly incapacitated. Paul is helpless when their missing teammates show up and are attacked. The robots eventually capture Robin, but Artemis is able to set off a jury rigged EMP device to shut them down. Red Tornado soon arrives but suddenly knocks out the Team. Paul awakens when the Justice League come to investigate, and frantically searches for his ring, finding it in the water purification system. After putting it on and repairing his injuries, he reports to Wonder Woman what happened to the Team.

In the Renegade timeline, Renegade!OL, having been augmented with Venom Buster, was able to defeat both robots immediately, wrecking one and capturing the other. This led to info on the Morrow android's location being given to the League, who swiftly apprehended him before Red Volcano could be completed. This also led to all the data the android had being taken intact.

Equivalent canon episode: "Homefront". "Font" simply refers to Mount Justice being flooded.

  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: The Reds trash the Cave when they attack.
  • Camping a Crapper: Paul is on the toilet when the robots attack the Cave.
  • Concussions Get You High: Paul becomes incoherent after getting his head slammed into the wall by Red Inferno.
  • Continuity Nod: Paul visits the victim who was forcibly injected with Venom Buster.
  • EMP: Robin and Artemis jury-rig an EMP emitter to take out the Reds.
  • Friendship Moment: Paul helping Robin heal the latter's uncle led to the two becoming closer friends than before.
  • Greed: Robin's first attempts to heal his uncle with the ring fail, because of the compassion and love he feels. To make it work, he instead has to tap into selfish desire, reliving the loss of his family and demanding that things be fixed.
  • Healing Hands: Paul demonstrates the ability to heal more devastating long term injuries than in the last arc.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Caught without the ring, Paul is unable to significantly alter events from canon, especially after he is concussed.
  • Joke and Receive: When presented with the possibility that Morrow is behind the attack, Wally says that he would have to be a hundred years old. Kon then responds by stating "Thomas Oscar Morrow. Born, April sixteenth, nineteen ten."
Paul: [internally] Wow. He actually is a hundred years old. Guess old supervillains don't die or fade away. I'm going to have to get everyone to go over Alan's records just in case something like this happens again.
    [Wally is surprised then grins]
Wally: Maybe he just wants us to get off his lawn.
  • Logic Bomb: Paul is able to confuse Red Inferno by pointing out the flaws in their master plan to replace humanity as well as general thought processes.
  • Mental World: Paul creates one and pulls the rest of his captured teammates into it with the help of M'gann.
  • Mirror Character: Alfred picks up on the similarity between Paul's extreme mindset to use his ring and Batman's own mindset on the war on crime.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: Artemis interrupts Paul with a kiss, as a thank you for healing her mom.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity:
    • Robin becomes addicted to the orange light within seconds, turning violent as soon as Paul tells him that the job is done and attempting to claw the ring off Paul's hand. Fortunately he was also too far gone to use his martial arts skills.
Richard: No! Mine! It's mine! No one will hurt my family again!
    • When searching for the ring after the attack, Paul exhibits severe emotional degradation and an obsessive drive to get his power back, with his internal dialogue showing repeated uncontrolled avarice spikes such as "!Ring!" and "!Want ring!"
Paul: I can.. I can feel it! I’ve got to have it!
