Recap / Wild Kratts S 7 E 6 No Name Dream

Go To

The Wild Kratts team travels across the world to name all the baby animals that Martin forgot to name.

Tropes:

  • An Odd Place to Sleep: Instead of sleeping in a bed, a hammock, or a sleeping bag, Martin decides to nap in the tree that resides in the main room of the Tortuga. He ends up falling out of it after he has a nightmare.
  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: Happens when Chris comes up with a plan to name every baby animal that Martin forgot to name. Nearly everyone has the same track of mind...that is, except for Jimmy.
Chris: Hey, I just thought of something! [nudges Aviva] Are you thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?
Aviva: I think I'm thinking the same thing. [to Jimmy] Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Jimmy: I think I'm thinkin' it. [to Koki] Are you thinking what we're thinking?
Koki: I think so. So we're all thinking the same thing.
Jimmy: You bet we are! Pizza party!
    Chris: [laughs] No, Jimmy!
Chris, Aviva and Koki: Let's split up!
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: In Martin's dream-turned-nightmare, the baby orangutan, baby ocelot, baby fossa and baby turtle he neglected to name all grow to tremendous size, towering over Martin as they repeatedly beg for him to give them names.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Blobby eats clams in the real world. In Martin's dream, he's more fond of clam pizza.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Martin's dream turning into a nightmare where he ends up falling causes him to wake up abruptly and fall out of the tree that he has made his bed.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: This episode brings back a lot of baby animals that Martin has met and named before, including Zippy, Slider, and Pokey, to name a few.
  • Delayed Reaction: When a Martin with falcon powers arrives in Madagascar, he hears the predator warning call of the lemur and sees lemurs rushing to safety, but fails to realize that he is the predator before it clicks and he deactivates his Creature Power Suit.
  • Dramatic Thunder: A brief bout of thunder and lightning marks the turn of Martin's dream into a Nightmare Sequence.
  • Dream Episode: Downplayed. The dream takes up only a small portion of the episode's runtime, but the rest of the episode is directly influenced by it.
  • Dream Sequence: Martin has one that involves him reuniting with a lot of baby animals that he's named over the course of the series. However, it quickly turns into a nightmare when four animals he's met but hasn't named cry and beg for him to name them, and upon waking up he becomes distraught over it.
  • Dying to Wake Up: Falling infinitely with the tears of the baby animals he forgot to name causes Martin to wake up and fall out of the tree that he had been sleeping in.
  • Exploiting the Fourth Wall: When splitting up, Koki, driving the Amphisub, soars out of her designated spot in the four-way Split Screen and nearly crashes into the camera before the scene transitions.
  • Face Plant:
    • When Martin falls out of the tree he's sleeping in after his Catapult Nightmare, he lands right on his face, but makes a quick recovery.
    • A tiny draco-lizard-powered Chris finds himself unable to land on the beach of an island, which has no trees around. As a result, he deactivates, but keeps moving forward and flailing his arms until he has a rough landing in the sand and gets cat shark pods on his face and in his mouth.
  • Flashback Nightmare: Played with. Martin has had good times with the four baby animals he hasn't named — the problem comes in when they all remind him of his mistake in not naming them, which sends him into a whirlwind of emotions.
  • Here We Go Again!: Martin, Chris, Aviva, Koki and Jimmy name every baby animal that hasn't been named yet...but then they dive into a mystery of mysterious alien-like pods, where they discover a newly-hatched cat shark that Martin names Kitten. And then there's the matter of the thousands of baby seahorses they find — and they take the time to name every single one.
  • In-Series Nickname: When the Crew calls Jimmy and finds that he's been napping in the cockpit of the Tortuga with the newly-named Snoozer (after having spent a long time trying to figure out a name for him), Koki cracks that "Snoozer" should be Jimmy's nickname.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: Realizing that visiting every single animal Martin forgot to name wouldn't make any logistical sense, the Wild Kratts Crew opts to split up and visit each location to name the animals, after Martin teaches them how he names animals.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Martin has this realization when Koki reveals to him every single animal he has met but has never named.
  • Not Allowed to Grow Up: It's presumably been a while since the Wild Kratts Crew has met, and by extension named, the baby animals featured in the episode, but none of the baby animals seem to have aged so much as a single day. The only indication of them actually growing up is with Shmertle and his brothers and sisters, as Martin comments on how fast they're growing.
  • The Power of Friendship: Even though going around the world and naming every baby animal Martin forgot to name is a large feat, Chris, Koki, Aviva and Jimmy Z are absolutely determined to do it for his sake, which shows how strong their friendship is.
  • Real Dreams are Weirder: Martin's dream has a coherent plot — it's him reuniting with baby animals that he's met and named before. The surrealism comes in when he sees Little G and Avalanche having tea, Crocodelia and Maze playing on a seesaw, and a whole host of other baby animals attend his birthday party.
  • Serious Business: Martin sees the naming of animals as this. He neglects to name four baby animals, and he ends up not only having nightmares about it, but also becomes severely distraught over it. He even has secrets for giving baby animals good names, which he's all too happy to show the rest of the Crew (and Chris wastes no time in giving an amused "Oh, brother" over it).
Martin: I- I just had a dream, and there were baby animals I forgot to name! I- I feel so bad. They were asking for names. They had no na-a-aaaames!
  • Smart People Play Chess: Averted. Chris, known to be one of the more analytical and studious members of the Wild Kratts Crew, plays checkers with Jimmy, who isn't quite as smart. Funny enough, going by their expressions, it seems that Jimmy is actually winning against Chris, as he has on a smug expression while the Kratt brother thinks heavily about his next move.
  • Talking in Your Sleep: Martin is shown talking in his sleep at the beginning of the episode, calling out for Slider before the Dream Sequence begins and the little otter is shown.
  • Talking in Your Dreams: In Martin's dream, Blobby, Spot Swat, and the four animals that surround him all speak in coherent English instead of in their usual sounds.
  • That Was Not a Dream: After Martin's dream-turned-nightmare, Chris comforts him by telling him that he's always naming baby animals, and Jimmy assures him that it was all just a dream. Unfortunately for Martin, one quick look at the baby animals the Crew has met and it's revealed that his dream-turned-nightmare actually has some merit, as the baby ocelot (two of them, in fact, but Martin only sees one), fossa, orangutan and turtle he previously met were never given names. It gets worse when Koki discovers that there are more than just four animals that Martin forgot — two bat-eared fox cubs, another ocelot kitten, and a group of baby box turtle hatchlings were never given names either.
