Recap / Welcome To Night Vale Ep 53 The September Monologues

Go To

It is September, and something is different.

Tropes present in The September Monologues include:

  • Bait-and-Switch: Steve Carlsberg mentions chatting Cecil about something, maybe the weather. Music then starts playing... and stops after ten seconds to return to Steve's monologue.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: More than the "A Story About X" episodes. This one doesn't have Cecil's "Welcome to Night Vale" and "Good night, Night Vale" bits, or any other typical segments. He doesn't say much this episode either, giving the spotlight to three unrelated people telling their own stories.
  • Hipster: Michelle Nguyen.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Even The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home is afraid of whatever Chad summoned.
  • Properly Paranoid: Steve Carlsberg can see quite clearly the map of arrows and lines in the stars that explains how the world works and how it all connects together. He fears that what he knows, should it get out, will potentially bring harm to him and the people he loves, but at the same time wants to at least teach Janice about the way he sees everything so she can understand and be wary of the many interconnecting dangers of the world she lives in.
