Leafpool's Wish is the fifth released
Warriors novella; one of the three in the
Tales From the Clans collection alongside
Tigerclaw's Fury and
Dovewing's Silence. It takes takes place between the end of
Sunset and the start of
The Sight.
Tropes appearing in this novella:
- Dramatic Dislocation: Whitepaw's tail gets dislocated, and Leafpool has to debate the best way to treat her since the apprentice is otherwise wounded from tangling with a hare.
- Hair-Raising Hare: Whitepaw is wounded by a hare that she's trying to catch.
- Meaningful Name: Lionkit is named for the fact that his golden fur and thick fluff around his neck make him look like a lion. Leafpool wanted to name Hollykit after Crowfeather, but Squirrelflight wanted a say in the kits' names and chose Hollykit for the dark color of holly bark. Jaypaw is named for his blue eyes, like the color of a jay's wing, and Leafpool already has decided that he'll be Jayfeather when he grows up.
- My Secret Pregnancy: Leafpool hides her pregnancy from everyone but Squirrelflight, who then raises the kits as her own. Justified in the sense that Leafpool is a medicine cat and is not supposed to have kits. Also, the father was from WindClan.
- Vow of Celibacy: Leafpool asks Brightheart if she wants to become a medicine cat apprentice, but Brightheart declines, saying she doesn't want to give up being a mate and a mother.
