Recap / Wakfu S1E19 "The Sadida Kingdom"

Go To

Having reached the Sadida Kingdom, Amalia is ready to inform her father about the threat posed by Nox and his men. However, her father is currently trying to communicate with the Tree of Life and the regent, her brother Armand, refuses to believe her. To further complicate matters, a duel Sadlygrove picked up with some guard escalates into something worse when Armand gets involved...

Tropes:

  • Angry Dance: The Sadida Corps have a motivational dance ritual they engage in before fighting. It's mocked by Sadlygrove, though.
  • Breaking the Fellowship: By the end of the episode, Eva is traumatized, Ruel in jail, Sadlygrove's running away and Amalia left alone.
  • Bullying a Dragon: The Sadida guards repeatedly mock Sadlygrove for being a Iop, until they're challenged to a duel on the field. It doesn't end well for them.
  • Cassandra Truth: Armand refuses to believe that Amalia's report on Nox is anything more than a fruit of her imagination and doesn't take her seriously.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Sadlygrove vs. several Sadida Guards on the field of battle, without using Rubilax. Unfortunately, it goes the other way around when Prince Armand enters the field.
  • Darkest Hour: Sadlygrove and Ruel are thought to be enemies, Eva's bow is destroyed, leaving her in severe distress, and now Armand is even less prone to listen to Amalia's plea.
  • Demonic Possession: During the fight against Armand, Sadlygrove succumbs to Rubilax' influence and proceeds to violently attack the Sadida Prince, but since he lose controls he also ends up wounding Eva and breaking her bow, the worst offence you can do to a Cra. Seeing Eva in sheer despair is enough for Dally to recover some of his senses and run away in shame.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Sadlygrove tells Armand that his breath stinks. The latter summons a giant carnivorous plant to manhandle him.
  • Facepalm: Eva does a two-handed version when Dally accepts Armand's challenge.
  • From Bad to Worse: It starts with Armand refusing to lend credit to Amalia's tale while their own father, the King, is locked with the Tree of Life in an attempt to understand what's happening to it. Then, what started as a simple (provoked) brawl ends up in an all-out fight during which Sadlygrove is possessed by Rubilax and ends up harming the prince and destroying Evangelyne's bow before running away. To cup it all, Ruel is arrested and put into jail.
  • Heroic BSoD: Eva is left in a mess after her bow is broken, as it's the worst blemish a Cra can get.
  • I Gave My Word: While on their way to the palace, Dally swears to not cause too much trouble and fight recklessly. While he does end up fighting the guards who insulted him, when Armand challenges him to a duel he remember what he swore and politely declines... Unfortunately, Armand taunts him so much he fights him anyway.
  • Jerkass: Prince Armand is rude, refuses to take Amalia seriously and consider her warnings a lie, treats Dally with contempt and taunts him to a fight even when he tried to decline and when he's insulted he goes for seriously maiming Dally. Noticeably, even while Eva was one of the most vocal about Dally not causing trouble or fighting Armand, she can't stop herself from smirking when Dally manages to land a few good hits on the smug prince.
  • Man-Eating Plant: Armand can summon a gigantic carnivorous plant to maul and bite his enemies. Until a Shushu-possessed Dally uproots it.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When Dally realizes that he snapped Eva's bow, he's so shocked he gains enough control over his demon form to run away In a Single Bound.
  • Oh, Crap!: Armand, when he realizes that Rubilax means to kick his ass.
  • Vine Tentacles: Armand can use his thorns as whips, binding them to his wrists to attack from afar.
  • Warrior Prince: Prince Armand does a better job fighting Dally on his own than the Sadida Corps did as a group.
