Recap / Wakfu S1E14 "Moon Island"

Go To

After causing a storm by chasing away an Albatrocious, the group's ship lands on an island inhabitated by Kannibauls, savage mask-wearing Sadida who kidnaps Yugo and the women to sacrifice them to the powerful deity they worship, Moon. However, as Amalia's about to find out, things are a little more complicated than they look...

Tropes:

  • And I Must Scream: At the end of the episode, Willow is left struck on the tip of a totem reaching nearly into space: after despairing and trying to get down for a few seconds... he shrugs, pulls out the book he had on him and starts reading to pass the time. In the credits, he's still seen reading.
  • Barrier Warrior: After having a hut dropped on him, Willow forms a barrier which keeps out all attacks. It takes the combined effort of Amalia, the rest of the Kannibaul tribe, Yugo and Moon to break through it.
  • Cannibal Tribe: The Kannibauls, a race of primitive, savage Sadidas who wear masks like their own God and plan to eat Yugo and Eva.
  • Continuity Nod: Willow and the tribe first appeared as a gag during the Boufbowl Inferno arc.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: The portal and shadow implies that Moon is a titanic beast... then what comes in sight is a tiny, cute monkey with a serious face and a hammer.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Dally of course fails to notice that the "kind villager" who appeared before him from nowhere is actually Willow's living shadow double.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: During the fight, Willow sends out his shadow double to attack Sadlygrove. Later, the double falls on him as he's preparing to unleash a powerful attack.
  • Living Shadow: Using the powers of the Hammer, Willow creates a double of himself from his own shadow and sends it after the heroes.
  • Multi-Mook Melee: When Dally and Ruel pulls out a Big Damn Heroes, we get a sequence of them teaming up to bring down a huge advancing horde of Kannibauls.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Moon is about the size of a normal monkey, but he's still the god of the island. However, most of his powers (and his immortality) come from the hammer.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Moon was already a boss during the Dofus era. The Hammer gives him immortality.
  • Shout-Out:
    • A young woman on a savage jungle island inhabited by cannibals sacrificed to a simian creature living beyond a huge gate... why that sounds familiar?
    • In the original French, Willow quotes He-Man (only with "Hammer" in lieu of "Sword").
  • The Starscream: Willow/Saule, the rogue Kannibaul who took down the previous king Botan Ficus and forced him into hiding. When he has the chance to take Moon's Hammer for himself, he does.
  • Tribal Carry: Yugo, Amalia and Evangelyne, captured by the primitive Sadidas, and carried while trussed on poles to their village.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: The Kannibauls were a more decent and peaceful lot under Botan Ficus, but Willow's regime made them hostile and sacrifice-happy.
