In the aftermath of the blast from the Zaiforge cannons, the paladins are unconscious in their lions and captured by Sendak. Despite having Voltron in his custody, Sendak continues his attack on Earth. Shiro suggests diverting all power — including that of the particle barrier — to the Atlas as the Zaiforge cannons move to position above them. The cadets provide air support as Galra cruisers bear down on the Garrison and Shiro, Coran, and Sam try to get the Atlas airborne. The crystal formed following the battle in the quintessence field is used to power the ship, which is able to do some damage to the Galra fleet.
Hunk suggests summoning the lions to bust them out of their cells. The Paladins are able to telepathically control the lions from their cells, and they are able to turn the tide of the battle in the humans' favor.
Tropes:
- Chekhov's Gun: The crystal that was formed after Voltron exited the quintessence field in "Defender of All Universes" is finally used as the energy source for the Atlas.
- "Eureka!" Moment: When Sam says that it would take the power of several supermassive black holes to get the Atlas to fly, Coran realizes that he's got such power in the crystal created after Voltron's dimension-hopping.
- "Hell, Yes!" Moment: The Garrison's reaction when the lions break out of where they were being held is pure joy and surprise.
- Redemption Equals Death: Sanda is killed trying to take out Hepta, Sendak's second-in-command.
- This Is Not a Drill: Said over the PA when all Garrison staff are ordered to get on the Atlas.
- You Said You Would Let Them Go: Sanda is surprised when Sendak refuses to leave Earth even when she gave him the paladins and the lions.Sanda: We had a deal!
