7 years after Ultraman Trigger saved the world, Earth is at peace and flourishing into a new age of civilization expansion: The Neo Frontier Era. However, the peace is disturbed by the nefarious Spheres, alien invaders bent on subjugating humanity who conquer the Mars colony. A normal rice cracker worker, Kanata Asumi, finds himself entrusted with the task of becoming the heroic Ultraman Decker to fight this new threat.

Tropes

  • Bittersweet Ending: Earth is trapped in a barrier of the Spheres and entire families, friends and loved ones are separated from each other between it and the Mars colony, Decker defeats Spheresaurus but is in turn unable to defeat the King Spheres and thus unable to stop the barrier form being formed, the only solace is that Kanata resolves to not only fight on as Decker but to enter GUTS Select as well to help.
  • Darker and Edgier: Compared to the first episode of the previous series, Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga, while the series remains optimistic as ever; the setting is much bleaker as the Spheres succeed outright in their goal of sealing Earth inside a barrier, Decker is beaten and unable to stop them and the Mars Colony beforehand is ravaged, furthermore we see soldiers dying onscreen to the Spheres via getting absorbed while Trigger had no such casualties onscreen.
  • Plot-Demanded Manual Mode: In the years between Trigger and Decker GUTS Select suffered budget cuts due to a lack of kaiju activities, and most of the staff was laid off in favor of modifying the Nursedessei and GUTS Falcon to be unmanned drones. Spheresaurus' EMP ability renders the weapons inert the moment they're deployed, thus forcing things back to manual and for GUTS Select to be reactivated.
