Recap / Two And A Half Men S 4 E 6 Apologies For The Frivolity

Go To

Charlie is dating a particularly outspoken, rude, and passive-aggressive woman. Alan, Jake, and Berta all immediately dislike her, and more than that, they all wonder how Charlie can't see the obvious truth right in front of his face; he's dating a younger version of his mother.

Tropes

  • Alpha Bitch: Discussed by Jake, who compares Lydia to the girls at school who think they rule the world because they have breasts.
  • Bratty Food Demand: Lydia at the restaurant that she and Charlie are at orders an Ahi Tuna filet. She then makes repeated demands that it be very rare, and then decides against ordering it under the assumption that the restaurant will screw it up. She then demands to know the exact time their salmon was flown in before ordering it.
  • Delayed Reaction: Berta makes a reference to Jake being considered 'slow' when discussing how Charlie can't see that Lydia is a young version of Evelyn. That discussion continues on for about a minute, Charlie leaves, and then Jake suddenly realizes he's been insulted and turns to Berta, asking "who calls me slow?"
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Charlie genuinely can't see the similarities between Lydia and Evelyn until watching how Lydia interacts with her two preteen sons. The cold demanding way she treats them reminds him of how Evelyn treated him at that age, and in a matter of seconds he suddenly gets it.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: Parodied. After realizing that Lydia is a younger version of his own mother, Charlie excuses himself, goes into another room, and starts screaming.
  • Sex God: The main reason why Charlie stays with Lydia is that she's remarkably good in bed, and because of this he decides to stay with her even after realizing she's a young version of Evelyn.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: When Lydia and Evelyn meet, the two immediately begin throwing passive-aggressive insults at each other. Oddly enough, the two seem to genuinely like each other (since they're both basically the same person) despite this war of words.
