Recap / Triptych Continuum Monsoon Season

Go To

She knows how to look out for herself: that's why her parents left her in charge of the house. Because they know she's responsible. But Ponyville's adults were collectively incapable of seeing that, and so she's been forced to live with the Apples. Something which made Applejack delusional, because that mare now thinks she has the right to exert control.

Scootaloo disagrees. She takes care of herself. As soon as her parents come back, they'll explain that. Everything will be normal again. And they'll be in Ponyville any day now. They always could arrive tomorrow, and there was a chance that they would have shown up yesterday.

Tropes found in this story include:

  • Blow You Away: Scootaloo gets the idea to use wind to blow apples off the orchard trees. Unfortunately...
  • Child Prodigy: Despite being a late bloomer, it's implied that Scootaloo is magically powerful. She created a dust devil on accident while just trying to kick up a breeze.
  • Heroic BSoD: After her letter is shredded, Scootaloo has a complete breakdown.
  • Hope Spot: Scootaloo has the idea of using Spike's flame-mail to send a message to her parents, asking them to come home. She composes the scroll, Spike sends it... and it strikes a modified lockdown effect and is sent back to Spike in pieces.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: The final stage of Scootaloo's breakdown.
  • Minor Living Alone: After three straight years of successfully looking after herself, Scootaloo is not accustomed to being under another's authority. This only exacerbates the friction between her and Applejack.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Scootaloo's modus operandi. She refuses to contemplate how long her parents have left her alone, the emotional toll it has taken on her, or the fact that her dream of traveling with them would mean leaving Ponyville.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: Scootaloo tries to tell off Applejack for lecturing her about responsibility. It's implied that the real target of the lecture is her parents, and Applejack is just a proxy.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Scootaloo has excellent field strength, but is still learning how to use her magic. Her attempts to knock an apple off a branch with a gust of wind instead generate a full dust-devil strong enough to break branches.
