Recap / Triptych Continuum Dark Thoughts

Go To

As far as amenities go, most of what the Manehattan Fashion Moon trade show offers to first-time booth operators is 'the honor of attending'. It means Rarity is expected to pay for her cart's storage, along with just finding a place to put it. But with Pinkie along for the trip, at least there's somepony to speak with during the endless Moon-watched circuits of the structure. Two mares desperately searching for an empty space, with nothing to do but think.

It's easy to think, when all you can really do is trot and talk. The hard part is figuring out how to stop.

Tropes include:

  • Heroism Won't Pay the Bills: The existence of the Bearer Relief Fund... and just how little it actually helps... is brought up once again during the story. Word of God brought up in the comments is that the Relief Fund was set up by Celestia... who, despite all her generations ruling Equestria, has always had a blind spot when it comes to matters of finance; she legitimately thinks she's actually giving them affordable financial aid, and would be horribly embarrassed to learn just how badly she's underpaying them for their services — but because the Bearers haven't had the courage to tell her, she's oblivious at the moment. Per the same source, Luna is much better with money, and in fact she's now officially in charge of the fund, but it was set up whilst she was in recovery from her abeyance and so she has no idea how badly the Bearers were being paid and still are being paid. Were she to find out, Celestia would be in for a tongue-lashing and the Bearers in for a very generous sum of back-pay.
  • Shout-Out: An homage is made to the sequence at the start of Going Postal, where protagonist Moist von Lipwig manages to dig an escape hole with a smuggled spoon, only to find it leading to a previously prepared secondary wall with a fresh spoon.
Those hosts who indulged in the usual sense of humor might visibly weaken the mortar on one outer wall, making it look as if a few hours of dedicated hoof-scraping could potentially lead to the removal of a block, creating the chance for escape — and the laboring pony, who had been filled with the glories of Hope, would see their efforts rewarded with a view of cold stone.
  • Take That!: Repeated digs are made at public parking garages, especially those of the city of New York.
