While Harold is checking over Sodor one evening, Porter is getting ready to pick up some deliveries. With more ships coming in, Salty offers to help but accidentally bumps some trucks Cranky attempts to use. When Salty attempts to pull them back in, Carly accidentally knocks some pipes Cranky is lowering which knock Salty off the tracks and into the sea.

The next day, the Fat Controller wakes Thomas up early to get a flatbed and rescue Salty - who is being fished out by Cranky - and to take him to the Dieselworks, while having Den do Salty's job. Meanwhile, Porter gets covered in flour because of the increased workload.

While Salty is on the hoist, he shakes off some seaweed on him. Den then accidentally slips on it, which ends up leading to the Dieselworks and its sheds to close and trap the Diesels in it. This leads to Percy being asked to help out at the Docks with Salty, Porter and Den out of action. He asks Thomas to help, but the Fat Controller tells him and the rest of the Steam Team about most of the Diesels being stuck in their sheds and that they are going to need to work extra hard to do all of the work.

Despite Percy desperately needing Thomas at the Docks, the Fat Controller tells Thomas to instead get to the Blue Mountain Quarry and then to take some Diesel fuel to the Dieselworks. All the work soon overloads at the Docks with Percy unable to get it done, and it ends up collapsing in on him and Carly almost falling into the sea.

The Sodor Search and Rescue Team are called out to the Docks to help. Harold tells Thomas what is going on, leading Thomas to rush to Tidmouth Sheds for help. Although the other engines are very tired from the increased workload, Thomas is able to convince them to help save Percy.

The Steam Team and Harold soon race to the Docks to help and are able to get all the work done, while also helping to save Carly and Percy. It takes them all night to get it all done, after which they are praised for their efforts by the Fat Controller. After he does so, he begins to think if there was something he is forgetting (the Diesels still being trapped), but decides he has not.

Tropes:

  • Death Glare: The other diesels stare angrily at Sidney when he continues cheering after the doors to the sheds of the Dieselworks stop halfway.
  • Extra-Long Episode: The second following "Diesel's Ghostly Christmas" back in Season 19.
  • Eye Cam: Seen with Thomas as he is woken by Sir Topham Hatt early in the morning after Salty's accident.
  • Hard-Work Montage: The members of the Steam Team, old and new, all work together to do the diesels' work, set to "Don't Stop".
  • Idiosyncratic Wipes: The screen being filled with the steamies' smoke from their funnels, which happens repeatedly in "Don't Stop".
  • Impact Silhouette: When the doors to the sheds of the Dieselworks stop halfway, Paxton tries to get through gap in his door by charging at it, only to leave a Paxton-shaped imprint in it.
  • Pep-Talk Song: "Don't Stop", as Thomas encourages the steamies to get the job done when the diesels are out of work.
  • Rousing Speech: When Thomas hears from Harold that Percy's trapped at Brendam Docks and Carly is about to sink into the water, he gives one to the other members of the Steam Team to convince them that they can't give up when Percy needs their help.
Thomas: Before you cool your boilers, there's one more job and we all have to do it together, as a team!
    Rebecca: I'm so tired!
    Gordon: Not today!
James: I'm tired enough as it is!
Thomas: I know, I know. We've been doing our regular jobs and filling in for the Diesels... because that's what we do, right? Engines help engines!
Gordon: We've been doing that all day!
Thomas: But we... I mean, I... I mean, nobody was there to help Percy. He's been at the Docks all day, on his own! Now, there's been an accident and Percy's trapped and Carly's in trouble, too! It may take all night to save Carly, rescue Percy and clear the Docks. Those crates may take our sleep, but they will never take our Percy!
  • Something We Forgot: This episode ends with Sir Topham Hatt congratulating the Steam Team for a job well done in clearing away Brendam Docks and saving Percy and Carly. He then wonders if he forgot something. Cut to the diesels, who are still trapped in their sheds, with nothing to do but listen to Sidney's whistling, then cut back to Sir Topham Hatt, who says, "No, all good!"
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: As the repairmen fix the mechanism for the shed doors at the Dieselworks, the diesels are all excited when they see the doors go up... only for the mechanism to malfunction and the doors to stop halfway.
