Recap / Thirty Rock S 7 E 2 Governor Dunston

Go To

Liz struggles with trying to conceive, while the Romney presidential campaign makes headlines with Governor Dunston, a Tracy Jordan look-alike. In the meantime, Kenneth gets a visit from his mom and her "Friend" Ron, which he despises, and gets to find out the actual truth.

The episode “Governor Dunston” contains examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: When Liz starts organizing the show’s new schedule, some of her words may sound a little suspect.
  • Identical Stranger: Governor Bob Dunston (played by Tracy Morgan in a wig) is unrelated to Tracy, but shares his appearance and penchant for buffoonery.
  • The Loins Sleep Tonight: Liz is having trouble being excited to have sex as she and Criss try to conceive.
  • Take That!: At the Romney campaign, like most of the season.
  • Unpleasant Parent Reveal: Kenneth finds out that his mother and her "friend" Ron got married 7 years ago in this episode. This shocks Kenneth and makes him really upset, considering that he hates Ron from the very beginning.
  • You're Not My Father: Implied. Kenneth doesn't like Ron at all, since he came by right after his dad's passing. After finding out that his mom and Ron got married 7 years ago (and with that, making Kenneth his step-son) and slipping that he just wanted to replace his father; Kenneth, really upset, walked away from the room.
