Recap / Thirty Rock S 4 E 2 Into The Crevasse

Go To

Jack finds himself facing a government hearing about corporate spending, and who should be heading it but Devon Banks. Meanwhile, the release of Liz’s book “Dealbreaker” lands her in hot water with Tracy.

  • Elephant in the Living Room: Played with. Tracy wants to discuss it; we find out he brought a literal elephant statue to Liz's home, but he actually wants to discuss the uncomfortable topic version.
  • Exiled to the Couch: Tracy finds himself exiled from home after Angie reads Liz’s book, and he responds by crashing at Liz’s home to punish her.
  • No Escape but Down: Invoked when Jack tells Liz about the time he fell on a crevasse while ice climbing, and to save himself had to "climb down into the darkness". Both Jack and Liz then had to metaphorically "go into the crevasse" to solve their dilemmas that week by debasing themselves.
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat: Liz faces an extreme version of this in Jenna’s hijinks this episode. In retaliation for searching for a new cast member, Jenna is now filming obscure student films in European countries while denying it’s about the cast member, sometimes without any prompting.
  • Take That!: While trying to "reinvent" the microwave, Jack orders more bells and whistles until he despondently says they've merely invented the Pontiac Aztek.
  • Your Mom: Jack’s retaliation against Devon Banks laying out his plot:
Jack: I’ll make this company profitable so fast, the only headline you’ll see will be, “Jack Donaghy Saves GE, comma, Marries Your Mom.”
