Recap / Thirty Rock S 2 E 15 Cooter

Go To

With Geiss still in his coma, Jack decides to take a job in the George Bush presidential administration. Meanwhile, Liz realizes she might be pregnant and has to make some big decisions. Matthew Broderick guest stars.

The 30 Rock episode "Cooter" contains examples of:

  • The Cameo: Matthew Broderick appears in this episode, playing a role that seems to reference his nervous accountant character from The Producers.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Pete used to be a skilled archer, and was set to go to the 1980 Olympics in Moscow until President Carter decided to boycott the games. Later, he shoots Donny in the leg with an arrow to ensure Kenneth can deliver his application.
  • Emerging from the Shadows: Parodied. Donny Lawson repeatedly attempts this, but always ruins it. A chair turning too far, mishearing his cue, etc.
  • Failure Gambit: Jack and Cooter attempt this in order to get fired from the Bush administration.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Kenneth learns that Donny made sure he wasn't aware of page applications for the Beijing Olympics until the day they're due. When Donny taunts him that he'll never finish it in time, Kenneth retorts that the day's not over yet.
  • Love Is in the Air: Jack and Cooter’s plan to get fired involves reviving a real war plan to make gay bombs that "reduce the enemy's combat posture by making them totally gay-bones for each other."
  • Pregnancy Scare: Liz has one.
  • Shout-Out: Dennis says that if Liz's baby is a boy, they have to name him Morpheus after the guy in those movies.
  • Take That!: To the Bush administration. From the war in Iraq, to the high turnover rate, to the recession.
