The Chalk Machine
The news of Justin has reached the school and Mr. Porter is determined to help the students out before he leaves. He calls Jessica into his office to ask her more about her ex-boyfriend. She reveals that Justin's mother, Amber is living with a drug dealing boyfriend called Seth. Mr. Porter goes to the house and gets into an altercation with Seth. Despite not throwing the first punch, Mr. Porter beats Seth into a pulp and is taken away in a cop car.
Ryan is next to testify. Sonya the lawyer questions him about Hannah's poetry. He explains that Hannah used poems to explain her loneliness and depression. He also divulges that Hannah did have a relationship with Justin after the photograph that was passed around; a fact that she left out of her tapes. The relationship, however, was over text message as Justin didn't want to ruin his reputation by being seen with Hannah.
Tyler is feeling newly powerful thanks to his friendship with Cyrus and decides to punish Ryan for not sticking up for Hannah on the stand. He catfishes Ryan, causing particular pain as Ryan is shown to be desperately lonely. He decides to go to Monet's coffee shop and meets Tony with his potential new boyfriend, Caleb and sits with them.
Alex and Zach seem to form a small friendship when Zach becomes Alex's physical therapist. During their sessions in the pool, Alex confides in Zach about his kiss with Jessica. He also tells him that he didn't feel anything 'down there'. Zach suggests watching porn to get back into it. Alex goes home and tries out a cam website but doesn't get any success.
Bryce and his girlfriend, Chloe are shown at dinner with Bryce's parents. His father, Barry appears unemotional and completely blank whilst his mother, Nora notices the bruises on Chloe's arms. Chloe convincingly tells her that they are from cheerleading practice; something Nora doesn't seem to completely believe.
Jessica continues her recovery by joining a rape survivor group. A girl named Nina is a member who also goes to the high school. She tells Jessica that she never believed the rumours that Jessica lied about her ordeal with Bryce. She offers her support to Jessica if she ever wants to tell the truth.
Clay discovers a possible link to the location in the Polaroids to the rape case. The presence of a chalk machine in the background means it could be linked to the school and athletics. A point that's further enhanced by Coach Rick seemingly allowing or helping members of the baseball team pass drug test illegally.
