Recap / The Storyteller E 08 Sapsorrow

Go To

The titular princess Sapsorrow flees her kingdom after accidentally entering an arranged marriage with her father, which happened due to her sister's carlessness and mischief. She decides to take on a new moniker: the filthy creature Scraggletag, and she becomes a servant in another kingdom. Sapsorrow is content to remain with her new humbler life, though things take an interesting turn when she falls in love with the local prince.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Ambiguously Human: Exploited with Sapsorrow's disguise as Scraggletag, where her attempts at looking as ugly as possible make most of the cast view her something potentially not human.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Sapsorrow is extremely good with animals and they are her most close allies as both Sapsorrow and Scraggletag.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The prince Sapsorrow falls in love with is spoiled and arrogant, but shows he has some hints of a kind heart underneath. Sapsorrow visits as both a princess and as Scraggletag to test him, and by the end of the story he proves to be a good man.
  • Karma Houdini: Zigzagged. Sapsorrow forgives her sisters for their awful behavior so they are never really punished for all the chaos they caused. They are still visibly frustrated with Sapsorrow finding love though, and it is implied that their disgusting personalities has ensured they can't find husbands in their own kingdom, so they aren't completely off the hook.
