Dimwitty Smurf finds an egg in the forest and decides to become a "mom" and names it Dimwitty Junior. The egg begins to hatch, and Dimwitty and the other smurfs test their parenting "skills". Eventually, the baby will be much better with its real parents.
This episode has the following tropes:
- A Day in the Limelight: For Dimwitty, who has never had a major role in the Smurfs universe.
- The Bus Came Back:
- Inversion example: Smurf-Fu comes back, as Smurfette is seen with practicing it with her Smurf-Fu clothes like last time.
- The snake from the same episode returns here as some sort of antagonist.
- The Cameo: Baby Smurf makes a brief cameo during the beginning. Clumsy also makes a non-speaking cameo when a Smurf goes on fire.
- Carrying a Cake: Chef Smurf carries one in the episode. Dimwitty crashes into him causing the cake to be ruined.
- Chalk Outline: Dimwitty sees that Junior cannot see in his egg, so he draws him a face. It obviously doesn't work.
- Dreadful Musician: Harmony tries to get Junior to sing and play music. When he demonstrates, he sings badly as usual.
- Egg Sitting: What Dimwitty does through the episode.
- Exact Eavesdropping: Dimwitty overhears Handy say that he's gonna smash Dimwitty Junior. It turns out that he was saying he was going to work on Papa Smurf's roof.
- History Repeats: The ending has Dimwitty find a pinecone and "raise" it again, just like he did with Junior.
- Identifying the Body: Brainy attempts to figure out what Dimwitty Junior is, which begins to overlap with Mythology Gag.
- Mythology Gag: The scene where the other Smurfs toss Brainy out of the village is a throwback to the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series.
- Papa Wolf: Dimwitty sees a giant snake about to eat Junior and brutally attacks it. He ends up victorious.
- Parental Neglect: Dimwitty leaves Junior so he (Junior) to go for a walk, but Junior ends up missing.
- Scary Jack-in-the-Box: Jokey attempts to teach Dimwitty to give Junior toys. He sets out a Jack-in-the-box, which has a picture of Gargamel pop out, causing Junior to run away.
- Sustained Misunderstanding: Dimwitty misinterprets Papa Smurf saying that the egg will hatch and believes another Baby Smurf will come out of it.
