Nolan passes his disciplinary exam but Sergeant Gray makes it clear he will never be promoted due to the stain it puts on his career. Stanton gloats over West and says he's going to get him dismissed as a trainee, only for West to retort that his father will make Stanton's career a living hell.
Stanton retaliates by setting up West to be beaten at a housing complex but this backfires when West activates Stanton's body camera. Stanton is placed on suspension. Lacking any chance to become a detective, Nolan decides to become a training officer instead.
- Did Not Think This Through: Stanton does not realize arranging for the head of IA's son to be beaten horribly would backfire. Especially when he's already on report.
- Dirty Cop: Stanton crosses this line from Rabid Cop as he allows West to be beaten before his eyes.
- From Hero to Mentor: Nolan decides to adopt this as his new career goal after being denied any other possible opportunities.
- Hero with Bad Publicity: Formal reprimands are Serious Business and receiving one has effectively destroyed Nolan's career.
- Police Brutality: Stanton arranges it so that West receives a horrible beating while he watches.
