Recap / The Rising of the Shield Hero S1E22 "Four Heroes Council"

Go To

After getting his much-needed class upgrade, Naofumi attends a meeting between all Four Heroes to try and learn how to become stronger. Meanwhile, Naofumi's party winds up involved in a brawl at the ballroom.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Achievements in Ignorance: The Three Heroes share with Naofumi several techniques that they've used to get more powerful; some of which were things that made Naofumis' more mundane activities such as Fast Travel and Item Crafting seem trivial. At the same time, it's because of this lack of foresight on Naofumis' part that allowed for him to skyrocket past the other Three Heroes by using more creative and inventive ways of solving his problems head-on.
  • Ballroom Blitz: One of Itsuki's knights drunkenly insults Naofumi to Raphtalia's face at the party. It eventually breaks out into a brawl between most of the patrons there.
  • Cassandra Truth: The Three Heroes try making Naofumi confess how he got his "cheat shield" (the Wrath Shield), not believing him when he confesses that he got it with hard work and no "cheating" was involved. Naofumi internally confesses knowing that no matter what answer he gives them, they won't believe him.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: The Three Heroes different methods that they use to empower their own weapons: Ren thinking that by maxing out the skill points in the weapons and distributing the accumulated points into to the newest variant, Motoyasu thinking that refining the weapons' stats through absorbing compatible materials, and Itsuki thinking that the Rarity of the weapons that are copied; are all the only ways to get stronger in this world. The other Three Heroes are adamant in their beliefs and don't consider the possibility that the others' method is valid. It is only after the conference that Naofumi learned that the only way that their weapons processes work is based entirely on the belief that it works: thus allowing Naofumi to unlock the Weapon Copy Skill for his Shield, later on he is seen adjusting the stats of his Chimera Viper Shield through using both Rens' and Motoyasus' methods, along with adjusting his own stats by converting the items he absorbed into his Shield for the Point Build System that Itsuki talked about.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Only so many ships set sail everyday. By the time Naofumi and his party make it to the ship, the three heroes are still there waiting at the docks.
Naofumi: Only so many ships set sail in a day. Those morons, look at 'em.
  • Fantastic Racism: One of the knights in Itsuki's party drunkenly insults Raphtalia, proclaiming that demihumans don't belong at a table in the castle and that the Shield Hero isn't worthy of his name. She responds by pulling her sword on him.
  • I Reject Your Reality: Motoyasu tries to defend Malty/Bitch when she was caught trying to poison the Shield Hero's party in-spite of everything that happened at her trial, saying that she would never do such a thing.
  • Like Father, Like Son: When the queen finds out that Melty and Naofumi's party had met Fitoria, the Queen gushes over it.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Unable to comprehend that Naofumi became so powerful with hard work, the three heroes are convinced that he only became so powerful because he "cheated."
  • No, You Go First: When the queen convinces the three heroes that they need to share information to improve, they all immediately demand that Naofumi goes first and explain how he got his "cheat shield."
  • Not-So-Omniscient Council of Bickering: The Queen has the four heroes gathered to exchange info so that they could better work together. While Naofumi learns a lot (that he and his party can teleport to previous locations, that he can have his shield craft items for him, that he can copy other shields just by touching them, etc.), the three heroes don't seem to agree what the best way of managing their weapons is and devolve into pointless squabbling.
  • Pet the Dog: When Naofumi copies all of the shields in the Blacksmith's shop, he has it put on his tab instead of just getting away with it.
  • Power Copying: After unlocking the Weapon Copy System for his Shield, Naofumi visits Elhart's Shop to put the skill to the test by picking up and unlocking the appearances and abilities of every Shield Elhart has on display.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When the three heroes are uninterested in learning anything new, the queen bluntly tells them that if they continue things the way they do, Naofumi will be the most likely to survive.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: Melty catches Malty/Bitch trying to poison a pie meant for the Shield Hero's table.

The Weapon Copy System allows for the Cardinal Heroes to copy over Weapon Statistics and magical Attributes of whatever Weapon they touch so long as it is the same type to their own Legendary Weapon.

How well does it match the trope?
