Chapter 16: Body Swap Bash

Tired of Luz and Amara butting heads, Uodeela makes them switch bodies for the day.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Children Forced to Kill: Implied. Uodeela fear that Luz and Anne could use their Calamity powers in lethal force if they fought again.
  • A Day in the Limelight: With Lilly and Gustav absent for the chapter, Amara shares the spotlight with Luz.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Another concern Uodeela has is that one of Luz's friends wound up in Newtopia and Andrias knows the Calamity Box has returned.
  • For Want Of A Nail: To "Once Upon a Swap". Uodeela uses a potion to make Luz switch bodies with someone without her consent.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: To get Amara and Luz to get along, Uodeela has them drink tea laced with a body swapping potion so they learn to respect each other.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Luz and the person she swapped bodies with still end up in trouble with the local law.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Amara learns of Luz's ability to use magic.
    • Luz discovers that Captain Grime knows about humans and has put out an order to bring any to him.
  • Out of Focus: As mentioned above, Lilly and Gustav don't appear and aren't mentioned.
  • Playing with Fire: Brewing and drinking an Elixer of Fire gives Luz the ability to create fireballs, fire rings and a flamethower-style blast from her hands.
  • Properly Paranoid: Uodeela becomes concerned that since Luz absorbed power from a Calamity gem, then her friends might've too. And because of her fight with Anne, they may unintentionally use their powers against each other should they have another fight.
