Michael Scott introduces the Dunder Mifflin crew to their new manager, Deangelo Vickers!

Airdate: April 14, 2011

Tropes Found In The Episode:

  • Comically Missing the Point: It takes both Michael and Deangelo an exceedingly long time to realize each one is the person the other is looking for, even when they're unknowingly talking to each other on the phone.
  • Formerly Fat: A picture shows that Deangelo used to be obese and lost over 200 pounds.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Michael is initially friendly with Deangelo, but begins to become jealous when the office quickly takes to him as the new manager and immediately starts listening to his suggestions on how to change things. It takes Jim confronting him and telling him he's the one who decided to leave (and Deangelo turning to him for help) in order for him to come around again.
  • Meet Cute: Kelly tries to engineer an obviously fake one with Deangelo where she runs into him, drops her papers, "accidentally" knocks her hair loose, and then takes off her glasses (that she doesn't even need). It doesn't work.
  • Plot Allergy: Deangelo is allergic to peanuts, which made Michael try to get a rise out of him.
  • Slapstick: Deangelo is a fan of this style of comedy, so when Andy accidentally trips, falls, and hurts himself, Deangelo's first impression of him is as "the funny one". Hilarity Ensues as Andy, eager to make a good impression on his new boss, decides to start having more "accidents".
  • Temporary Scrappy: Deangelo Vickers is introduced as the first replacement for Michael. He is consistently written to be a horrible person in general with apparently no experience in business. According to his actor, the entire point of Deangelo is to briefly bring in a big-name actor as a bit of Stunt Casting so that people wouldn't immediately abandon the show once Steve Carell (Michael) left.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: It finally begins to dawn on Michael that he's getting ready to leave a workplace he considered a family behind, but life at the office will still go on without him, and he can't expect everything there to stay the way he likes it.
