The memory machine DOES take Bastian's memories every time he make a wish, but they never specify if there are any limits on wishes, so he COULD have wished the memory machine out of existence immediately to foil Xayide's plans. The Critic, however, does.NC I wish for a gun!(a gun appears in NC's hands)NC I wish for that machine to disappear!(the memory machine vanishes from a still photo of it, it's inventor, and Xayide; cue close up of Xayide's face, which changes to a shocked expression)NC Bye.
