Recap / The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh S 1 E15b Magic Earmuffs

Go To

When Piglet, during a game of ice hockey, is ashamed to admit that he does not know how to skate, the others decide to teach him.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Bigger Is Better: Invoked and subverted. Tigger initially thinks that giving Piglet bigger ice skates will help the latter learn how to skate. Christopher Robin disagrees and is proven right when Piglet is sent flying across the ice, into the air, and finally into the snow.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Christopher Robin's earmuffs are what give Piglet the self-confidence he needs to get the hang of ice skating.
  • I Want My Mommy!: Dramatic example. When the ice breaks and Roo, Tigger, Pooh, and Rabbit are stranded on a patch of ice that's floating toward a waterfall, Roo calls for Kanga to help them. Piglet, who can now skate, comes to the rescue.
  • Literal-Minded: Pooh hears Christopher Robin's mother say, "Christopher Robin, you know you can't skate without your earmuffs on." Pooh thinks this means that Christopher Robin is unable to skate without earmuffs. Later, when all attempts to teach Piglet to skate have failed, Pooh suggests that Piglet could skate if he wore the earmuffs.
  • Magic Feather: Christopher Robin gives Piglet the titular pair of earmuffs, telling him he'll be able to skate if he wears them. Sure enough, Piglet gets the hang of it in no time. When Roo, Tigger, Pooh, and Rabbit are stranded on a patch of ice that's headed for the waterfall, Piglet skates onto another ice patch and manages to toss them their skates so they can get off the ice and safely to shore. Before Piglet can do the same, the earmuffs come off, floating toward the falls. Piglet goes after them, believing he needs them in order to skate, until Pooh points out that Piglet is skating.
  • Oh, Crap!: Pooh and Roo have looks on their faces indicating that they're thinking this after Gopher tells them that they are heading for a waterfall. They turn around and see that he's right.
